Never mind Jane Froman! "I Believe" was oneThe Batchelors' biggest hits and this compilation won't disappoint, both the fans and newbies to this kind of entertainment. Very well produced and a real treat.

Their "I Believe" NOT the original
18 July, 2008
Don't forget, the original was Jane Froman in 1953 and Frankie Laine had a No.1 one with the song the same year.

The Bachelors were one of the biggest selling bands of the 1960s, clocking up a total of 8 top 10 hits, including two number 1 singles. One of these - Diane - knocked the Beatles off the #1 spot in 1964 and went on to spend a total of 77 weeks on the chart (versus the Fab Four's 65 weeks in the same year).
During the 60s, the band's TV appearances attracted some of the biggest audiences of the decade - and indeed, their 1965 Live From The London Palladium performance still holds the record for the biggest TV audience for a musical broadcast (22 million viewers).
As well as being an iconic band in their own right, The Bachelors inspired two more recent phenomenons - Boyzone and Robson & Jerome. Louis Walsh happened to talk to the Bachelors' manager one day in the 1980s, who advised the young manager to form a boy band - multi-platinum selling Boyzone were the result.
And it was this band who recorded the original version of Robson & Jerome's number 1 smash 'I Believe', which still holds a place among the records which have spent longest at the top spot.
With a string of hits throughout the 1960s, The Bachelors became a particularly bankable pop act on the strength of singles like 'Charmaine', 'Diane' and, perhaps most notably, 'I Believe'. With roots in Dublin and beginning as an instrumental harmonica ensemble in the tail-end of the 1950s, the group has a mixed musical heritage that was evident still when they found mainstream success. Their first single, 'Charmaine', was originally composed in 1926 by Erno Rapee, an indication of the band's penchant for reinventing existing material for contemporary audiences.
