To celebrate their 30th Anniversary, Whitesnake release 'Good to Be Bad', their first studio album in a decade. The album features 11 new, slamming Whitesnake songs which are guaranteed to take their place alongside their multi-million selling catalogue.
The 11 new songs, written by Coverdale & guitarist Doug Aldrich (who also co-produced the album with Coverdale & Michael McIntyre) provide a good balance of 8 rocking tracks and 3 ballads. Coverdale feels it's the first 'real' Whitesnake album in almost 20 years, commenting "It's very butch. Very muscular..." With their blend of hard rock, soul, blues, and balladry plus a healthy dose of priapic posturing and good time fun, Whitesnake brings a welcome, positive energy to the current musical climate.
- Kerrang (Magazine) (p.50) - "^T]his thing breathes fire all the way. Adding the spirit of their blues-inspired origins to the hormonal pyrotechnics of their commercial peak..."
Marking the end of a decade of non-activity, Whitesnake's 'Good To Be Bad' is their 11th studio album. It's a typically hard-rocking affair, with band leader David Coverdale delivering unashamedly masculine glam-metal anthems that will delight die-hard fans. As the only original member Coverdale essentially is Whitesnake, but replacement guitarist Doug Aldrich acts as a songwriting collaborator for many of the recordings here. Co-produced by Coverdale, Aldrich and long-time friend of the band Michael McIntyre, 'Good To Be Bad' is exactly what one would expect as a continuation of the Whitesnake legacy, and all the better for it.
Initial pressings of GOOD TO BE BAD included a bonus disc containing 7 live tracks and a video.
Recording information: Clear Lake Audio, LA.
Issued more than a decade after Whitesnake's previous studio outing, 2008's GOOD TO BE BAD finds frontman David Coverdale leading a band of new hard-rock recruits. Easily one of the heaviest albums recorded by the blooze-leaning British act, the album benefits from Coverdale's well-weathered vocals and the twin guitar work of Doug Aldrich (Dio) and Reb Beach (Winger, Dokken), as evinced on the fierce opener, "Best Years."
Former Deep Purple vocalist David Coverdale formed the hard-rock/metal outfit Whitesnake in 1978. While the band's macho rock sound and "what's-wrong-with-being-sexy?" sexist aesthetic garnered them a respectable amount of commercial success in the U.K. and Europe, the band didn't hit big in the U.S. until the release of their 1987 self-titled album. Anchored by the fist-pumping single "Here I Go Again," the album sold millions and forever solidified Whitesnake's place in hair-metal lore.
