next best thing to seeing Seasick live
19 June, 2008
Doghouse Music, the second album from Seasick Steve, is the next best thing to seeing him live. Not only do you get the songs which are helping him quickly climb the ladder of fame but you also get a dose of Seasick's humour.
Look out for him at T in the Park 2008

You may have seen his incredible performance on Jools Holland's New Year Hootenanny, well here's the album. 'Doghouse Music' is the second album by this Californian 69 year old ex-hobo who has played with everyone from John Lee Hooker to Lightning Hopkins, The Beach Boys to Joni Mitchell and Son House to Jon Spencer.
"Jangling along like a train hurtling down a tunnel into hell - in a good way of course. Seasick Steve clearly delights in the lo-fi snarl and twang of the oldest most battered guitar he's picked up in a thrift store, and the impression is, he then just lets the guitar write the song." - MOJO
"A fervent stink that bleeds to the bone" - Uncut
"Captures the sweaty, grime-encrusted spirit of the blues, whilst sounding distinctly at odds with anything else" - fRoots
In a time when the latest shiny indie talents release killer singles then fail miserably when they bring out disappointing and bland albums, it's great to see a grizzled old hobo with a knackered guitar making the freshest music around. Seasick Steve, a train hoping hobo now resident in Scandinavia, produces Lo-Fi blues using only a three string guitar and kicking a box for the rhythm. His blues songs tell tales of a tough upbringing and an even tougher existence on the road, living homeless and being hassled by the cops. His playing often sounds like more than one musician and his tracks range from gentle, slide blues to raging boogie stompers. He's the best thing to happen to guitar music in an age and if the snotty bleatings of a thousand middle class emo bands with no real stories to tell are beginning to grate on your nerves then maybe it's time to listen to music made by someone whose actually lived...

'Dog House Music' is the second album from American bluesman Seasick Steve. A collection of off-kilter blues tracks with a warm sense of humour and lots of heart, sung in Steve's own inimitable style. Include the tracks 'Yellow Dog', 'Cut My Wings' and 'Dog House Boogie'.
An appearance on Jools Holland's 2006 Hootenanny New Year's Eve TV show catapulted this veteran American country bluesman into the limelight. After decades of transient employment, travelling and performing Seasick Steve's debut album CHEAP, released on Scandinavian independent, was only released in 2006. Following the Jools' show slot his profile has risen rapidly, one man band (guitar and Mississippi drum machineà) Steve won Mojo magazine's award for the Best Breakthrough Act in 2007, appeared at numerous festivals and secured a contract with Warner Music in 2008.
